Pricing catalog files are the heart of the variable margin pricing matrix’s analysis function. These files allow you to experiment with different pricing strategies for your customers without assigning new contracts or changing pricing parameters in the (A) screen or Customer window. A pricing catalog is similar in structure to the file P-MASTER except that it can contain information about the customer’s potential future pricing on specified items, as well as past and present pricing information.

The (SGJ) screen contains contract and customer pricing parameter fields similar to those in the (A) screen or Customer window. You can use these fields to experiment with different combinations of contracts and parameters without affecting the customers current pricing structure. Once the current and historical information has been compiled, the system calculates the best pricing for the specified items again, this time based on the contracts and parameters you specify in the (SGJ) screen.

The (SGJ) screen is actually part of the EDI application. Pricing catalog files were originally developed to let dealers who are using EDI create electronic pricing catalogs for individual customers. Once the pricing file is created, the information it contains is used to build a pricing file that is transmitted to the customer as an ANSI 832 Price/Sales Catalog format.

The variable margin pricing program’s analysis function also makes use of pricing catalog files. You can use these files to generate reports comparing a variable margin pricing strategy to a customer’s current pricing. You can even create several pricing catalogs for the same customer. This allows you to explore the results of different combinations of contracts and pricing parameters without affecting order entry.

In this screen, you can now create pricing files for all departments for a customer. Previously, you could only create the P-CATALOG field for one account at a time.
