Help Version: 12.10.6

The Spruce AnyWare app connects directly to the same database used by the Spruce application via a bridge application named HttpListener that runs on the Spruce server. Some features require the use of the Spruce software for further processing. Older version of the Spruce AnyWare app will typically work with newer versions of the Spruce software; however, we strongly suggest that your company maintain the latest Spruce version currently available in order to use the latest features as they are introduced. It is possible that installing a newer version of the Spruce AnyWare app while using an old version of the Spruce software could cause issues with or prevent the use of the Spruce AnyWare app. In this case, updating the Spruce application to the latest version should correct any problems.

The app can be installed on any Android platform device such as a smart phone or tablet. The minimum Android platform version we support is Gingerbread (2.3.x); however, you device can be a higher version. A data plan (not included) is required for use outside of a WiFi environment.

At least one station must be configured for Spruce AnyWare in the Spruce software. The IP address field is used for designating a “device ID.” The same station record can be used for multiple connections. User and station settings and limitations also apply to Spruce AnyWare connections, so set these appropriately if you are using the same station form more than one user.

Network & Device Configuration

All network configuration and troubleshooting is the responsibility of your company. Your company must either already have or establish either a WAN (wide area network) or LAN (Local Area Network) with wireless capability.

A designated port, usually 517, is used by the Spruce AnyWare application for connecting to your Spruce server externally. For connections outside your network (via Internet), your company's router would have to be configured to forward this port (usually 517) to the server hosting the Spruce application and database. This would be configured by your company's IT provider, not by our support or other personnel.

Devices must be configured to properly connect to your wireless network. If you have older network equipment, it is important to make sure that the proper wireless protocol is assigned to devices to match your network. For example, a device that is set to communicate via a newer (802.11 n) or some specific protocol might not work with an older protocol such as 802.11 b, for example.

In order to scan bar-coded items or documents, you must install a 3rd party app named “Barcode Scanner” by ZXing. This is available free on the Android Market™ media store.
